All Class 10 students with A-plus grades will get the course of their choice: Kerala Education Minister

Kerala Education Minister V Shivankutty on Monday said all students who got A-plus in all subjects in class 10 in the state will get seats in courses of their choice as the government is increasing the seats by 10 to 20 per cent and additional is starting. batches in different districts and taluks of the state.

The minister said that the increase in seats or additional batches would be based on the number of requests received from each zone. He was responding to questions asked by him during the Question Hour of the Assembly whether the government has any plan to ensure that A+ students in all subjects get the courses they want.

The question came in the backdrop of complaints from students and parents that even those who have scored A-plus in all subjects are finding it difficult to get a course of their choice in Plus One (Class 11).

Shivankutty said that out of about 1.2 lakh students who got A-plus in all subjects, only 5,800 were left, who did not get the course of their choice even after the second supplementary allotment last week. He assured that all such students will get courses of their choice.

VD Satheesan, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, said the government should have first transferred school and curriculum composition before bringing out the second supplementary list.

However, bringing in the supplementary list earlier has resulted in thousands of full A-plus students joining courses they don’t aspire to so that they don’t lose out on a seat. Shivankutty said that the government will ensure that all students with complete A+ get admission in the course of their choice.

He also said that at present a marginal increase in seats has been implemented in Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kannur. Wayanad and Kasaragod district of the state
