Surat Apartments: Three more test Covid positive from ‘cluster zone’

Two more children and a woman from Avishkar Apartments in Surat Piplod area have tested COVID-19 positive on Thursday. With this, eight minors have tested positive so far, while the total number of infected people in the apartment (a cluster zone since Wednesday) has touched 14.

Of the three samples found positive, one is a 30-year-old woman and the remaining two include an 11-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl. Two days ago, six minors of the invention apartment had tested positive and have been in isolation since then.

The Surat Municipal Corporation on Wednesday declared Avishkar Apartments (B-Block) a containment zone after 11 positive cases were reported in nine days.

The officials had conducted RT-PCR test of 150 residents of the apartment, of which the reports of 30 were awaited. Those who returned positive test results on Thursday have been kept in home isolation.

“The increase in the number of cases was due to the community gathering during Ganesh Utsav, which is usually celebrated by the residents of the apartment. We are expecting some more cases from the same apartment complex as some test reports are still awaited. No outsider is being allowed to enter the apartment while insiders are also not allowed to go out,” said Dr Pradeep Umrigar, SMC medical officer.

With this, the total number of cases in Surat has increased to 124 in September. Of this, 18 cases were reported in people below the age of 18 years. While 40 cases were reported in those between 18 years and 44 years, 25 cases were in the 45-60 years group, and 41 cases were in people above 60 years of age.
