Surat: 3 arrested with drugs worth Rs 19.62 lakh

Surat Police on Friday seized mephedrone drugs worth Rs 19.62 lakh and Rs 2.49 lakh in cash from three youths traveling in a car in Neyol Patiya. The three arrested have confessed to buying drugs from a businessman in Nala Sopara, Mumbai.

Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch kept an eye on the Neyol check post on Surat-Kadodara road in Surat on Friday afternoon. The officers intercepted a car with GJ-5RM-4881 registration on suspicion. On investigation, they found 196.2 grams of Mephedrone medicine and cash.

The arrested people have been identified as Imran Sheikh. Imran Khan and Maz Sayyed, all residents of Rander, Surat.

They have been charged under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act.

Surat Police Commissioner Ajaykumar Tomar said, “We are making all efforts to make Surat a drug-free city and for this all our teams are on the streets to nab the people involved in such illegal trade.”
