Strictly Come Dancing 2021: Week Seven – As it happened

Let’s take a look at the leaderboards – AJ and Kai at the top, and Adam and Katya and Dan and Nadia in the dance-off danger zone. Will this be the case tomorrow, or will the public come forward to save them? I think Dan has a good chance of being saved – my money is on Rhys or Tilly joining Adam tomorrow.

Voting is open, so it’s time for a big old recap – my highlights this evening included Rose’s Sassy Samba, JoJo’s Sensual Rumba, and AJ and Kai’s Classic Charleston.

Another great show this week – lots of fun. Everyone is doing their best and I can’t stop smiling.

Shirley loved stamina and Sarah is really happy in the hold. Anton thought it was a delight and Aljaz’s choreo was brilliant, but Sarah’s head gives him a hunch. Craig thought the footwork could have been neat and Sarah’s shoulders were up, but being on hold is Sarah’s quality. Motsi loved the change in rhythm and Sara kept the pace till the end.

Who bothered Sarah in the wardrobe? She looks like Sully from Monsters Inc. in that swanky blue/green combo. There’s a lot of confusion at the beginning of this quickstep, but once they’re caught, things get better. The footwork is a little bad in place and it wasn’t my cup of tea, but just enjoying Sarah’s enthusiasm.

This week they’re dancing to Dolly Parton’s QuickStep to ‘9 to 5’. Kelly and Kevin took a quick take on it back in the day, and it was Carolyn and Johannes American Smooth just last year. Dolly is partial, more like.

Motsi was very proud of AJ’s performance – it was authentic and she loved it. Shirley doesn’t have a big enough pedal, it was off the charts. Anton thought it was outrageous and spectacular, and Craig agrees – it was a-me-zing. Tens around?

AJ looks amazing in red and pink chevrons, and she was born to dance Charleston. Beautiful accuracy in his swivel, great characterization and his timing is sublime. loved her Best Charleston we’ve seen in years.

This week they’re dancing to ‘Don’t Bring Lulu’ to Charleston by Dorothy Provine, Pinky and the Girls. I’m very much anticipating that Lulu is actually going to pop up randomly later on Zoom, not that AJ and Kai’s fire needs to be lighted up anyway.

AJ totally has legs for this, I’m really looking forward to it.

Craig is planning to steal that dance to his fiancé Jonathan for her wedding. There were a few details, but he absolutely loved it. Motsi thought that his movement really spoke and had a sensitive spirit and was the essence of the rumba. Shirley got emotional seeing this – it was atmospheric and classy. Anton thought it was a pretty mature performance, although John’s posture wasn’t quite right. A beautiful, lyrical dance.

Loving John and Johannes in the matching pajamas, although John has some missing buttons, which is just shoddy stitching.

John is leading the dance, and he’s doing an excellent job. Beautiful storytelling and shaping up some really rumba. An intimate, compelling performance with real beauty – I’m not a fan of rumba, but it was something really special and I loved it *fans myself*

This week he is dancing to Sting’s Rumba to ‘Shape of My Heart’. We’ve made it to Week 7 without John and Johannes setting the tabloids AFROTH with their take on dancefloor romance, so I very much hope they’re storing it for this Rumba. Forget brotherhood, caring and mutual respect, I want man-on-man tantric rumba shit please.

Scores: 6,7,8,7 – 28 total for Dan and Nadia.

Apparently Dan’s bum is covered with physio tape and all the hair has been removed from it. There was absolutely no need to know this.
