Azamgarh police have arrested a sub-inspector for allegedly hiring contract killers to kill a man, who was earlier arrested for the murder of his brother.

Superintendent of Police (Gonda) Santosh Kumar Mishra said that Akhilesh Yadav, a 2018 batch sub-inspector posted at Khodare police station in Gonda district, has been suspended and departmental inquiry has been initiated against him.

Yadav’s name cropped up during interrogation of three men arrested with firearms in Azamgarh on Thursday night.

According to the police, the three Gonda residents Dina Nath Yadav, Dafli Yadav and Devendra Nath Yadav told them that they had come to Azamgarh to kill on the instructions of SI Akhilesh Yadav. Police said they have recovered a photograph of their intended target from their possession.

According to Azamgarh police, they had received information about the presence of suspects in Alipur village of Rani ki Sarai area on Thursday. The police team reached the village and caught the three riding on the motorcycle.

Police claimed to have recovered two country-made pistols, cartridges and a photograph of the target from their possession.

“The three men said that SI Yadav offered them money to kill a person in Azamgarh. He said that after several rounds of talks, the SI gave him 20 thousand rupees to carry out the murder. Three men said that they bought country-made weapons and cartridges with the money given by the SI,” said a police officer.

Significantly, SI Akhilesh Yadav is also a resident of village Alipur.


During investigation, the police found that Rahul was among the nine people arrested for the murder of SI Yadav’s elder brother Rajesh, who was shot dead on November 28 last year in a dispute related to a panchayat election. . . SHO (Rani ki Sarai) Dilip Kumar Singh told that Rahul has recently been released on bail.

SP (Gonda) Mishra said that he took action against SI Yadav on the basis of the information given in the report of Azamgarh police.

According to the police, SI Yadav came in contact with one of the contract killers, Dina Nath Yadav, when he was investigating a case under the Excise Act.
