Starmer’s effort to overhaul Labor leadership rules boosted after Unison reportedly backed plans – LIVE

The truth is that the Tories have failed to value good working class jobs. They have failed to invest in those jobs and now we are all paying the price. We have a 90,000 HGV driver shortage, leaving supermarket shelves empty and businesses without vital supplies. And it’s only going to get worse.

Of the 320,000 drivers in the UK, just 3% are women. The number of drivers completing practical HGV testing following their theory is declining. Transport secretary’s answer? Put more pressure on already tired existing drivers and cut corners during testing. It’s just not good enough.

This Tory government could have done more to attract people to the industry and value those important jobs. We’ve warned them – if you don’t act now, shelves will go bare, medicines won’t be distributed and Christmas will be ruined for the nation.
