Rights group calls on Taliban to release 2 Afghan journalists, investigate attack

LONDON: The Journalists’ Protection Committee on Wednesday urged the Taliban to immediately release two detained Afghan journalists and investigate another violent attack.

“The Taliban must take immediate measures to stop the repeated arbitrary detentions and abuses of journalists in Afghanistan,” said Steven Butler, CPJ’s Asia program coordinator.

“The Taliban should immediately release journalists Abdul Hannan Mohammadi and Khan Mohamed Sial, and investigate the attack of Mohamed Ikram Esmati.”
