Mandatory testing, isolation for international arrivals in Goa, says CM Sawant

Expressing concern over this, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said omicron Types of coronavirusAll international travelers arriving in Goa will have to undergo a mandatory test. The decision was taken in a high level meeting held on Tuesday with the officials of Health Department, Goa Airport, Mormugao Port Trust.

“International travelers arriving in Goa will have to undergo mandatory testing and those arriving from the 12 countries identified by the Center will have to be in isolation for 14 days. Other international travelers will be asked to isolate at home,” Sawant said.

“We will follow this strict protocol and every precaution will be taken against the new version,” Sawant said.

This decision has come at a time when the tourism season is booming in Goa. Plagued by a second wave of the pandemic, the region had started seeing a revival since September. While schools in the state have reopened for students of class 7 and above, the chief minister has not made any addition or subtraction in the decision to operate the schools in offline mode.

Chief Minister Sawant had earlier announced that the government had decided not to allow Suburban EDM Festival to take place in Goa this year. On Tuesday, Goa had 284 active COVID-19 cases, of which 38 were new. There were no deaths on Tuesday and the test positivity rate stood at 1.40 per cent.
