After a father of two died after falling into a river while celebrating Bucks party on a houseboat, police suspect alcohol may have been a factor.

Jesse Youd, 34, from TasmaniaWas on a houseboat with friends on the Murray River near Mildura on Saturday night.

The four men on the boat decided to go to the shore in a canoe.

But after leaving the houseboat, the boat capsized, sending all the four people into the water at around 11:30 pm.

The three men returned to the houseboat, but it was not until 2.40am on Sunday that the group realized Mr Youd was missing.

Police were then called to launch a search in Dockside Drive, Mildura.

Officers from both NSW and Victoria Police spent Sunday scouring the river for Mr Youde but were unable to locate him.

The SES in Mildura assisted the police in their search efforts.

NSW Police divers arrived at the scene and began searching the Murray River on Monday morning.

They found the body at 1.30 pm.

While the body has yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of Mr Youde.

The cause of death has not been determined, but police believe that Youd drowned.

Mr Youd is survived by his wife Sarah-Jayne and sons Dawson and Casey, the Hobart Mercury reported.

Officers from the Barrier Police District will prepare a report for the information of the coroner.
