India’s Test captain Rohit Sharma has the responsibility of leading the team in crisis. On a turning pitch in Bengaluru, India found themselves in trouble in the first innings against Sri Lanka as they were reduced to 4/86. The captain was partly responsible for the score as he was dismissed for 15 off 25 balls. But now that Sri Lanka were bundled out for 109, Rohit decided to put in more effort as the pitch started to take a turn in the second essay.

He continued and played mind games with Sri Lankan spinner Lasith Embuldeniya. He went to the tweaker who forced the bowler to bowl short. The captain in turn sweeps on several occasions. His reverse sweep took the Twitterverse by surprise. You can watch the video here.
As of the writing of this report, India are on tee break at 61/1 with a solid lead of 204 runs. In a pink-ball Test match, no team has ever chased down a total of more than 190, making India, the hosts, the favorites for the match. Even before this, on the basis of Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round performance, he defeated Sri Lanka by runs in the first Test match played in Mohali.

India bowled out Sri Lanka for less than 109 runs in their first innings on the second day of the second Test on Sunday.

In reply to India’s 252 runs, Sri Lanka were reduced to 86 for six in 30 overs on Saturday. Resuming the innings, the visiting team lost just 5.5 overs, losing Lasith Embuldeniya (1), Suranga Lakmal (5), Niroshan Dickwella (21) and Visva Fernando (8), adding just 23 runs in the first session. Sri Lanka are now 143 runs behind India.
