Coveta company woman dies after a 14-year-old accident at home

Atlanta, Ga. (CBS46) – A woman was killed and two others were injured after a teen crashed into their Coveta County home during a police chase, officials say.

Officials said CBS46 employees were patrolling Highway 54 and Johnson Road when they found a vehicle that allegedly failed to dim its headlights. An attempt was made to stop the traffic, at which point the driver accelerated. The Coveta County Sheriff’s Office says the driver, later identified as a 14-year-old boy, reached speeds of more than 130 mph.

The deputy lost sight of the car and began asking residents of the area if they had seen the driver. A resident reportedly told officials that he saw a vehicle crash at his neighbor’s house.

After finding the crashed vehicle, deputies learned that a family of three was inside and had suffered injuries. Coveta County Fire and EMS provided assistance, but one of the residents, a woman, later did not survive. The other two occupants, a man and a woman, were taken to the hospital.

The family has identified the woman as Annette Rush. They say that Rush had recently come home after dropping off her son at work. The family also told CBS46 that one of the injured is their 27-year-old son.

The driver of the vehicle, who will not be identified at this time as he is a minor, was arrested and taken to a youth detention centre.

The Coveta County Sheriff’s Office will look into juvenile traffic offenses. The Georgia State Patrol will take charge of murder by vehicle.
