“The disease affects me personally and I’ve connected with it because my grandmother had it in 2004. First a relative, who I’m not even sure about. It’s been in every generation of my family. My Mom is living with it and my uncle is living with it,” Hines told Fox News Digital in a recent interview. “It’s really important to me that I use my platform to not only give hope, but it’s also to inspire people.

“Also, for me personally, it’s just other people I’ve met. Until I started working for MDA, I hadn’t met anyone who was living with the same struggle as me. Ho. It’s very, very near and dear to my heart.”

The 26-year-old explained to Fox News Digital what is happening to members of her family.

“Muscular dystrophy is a neuromuscular disease so your muscles degenerate and really every struggle,” he said. “With my mom on this, it has become difficult for her to walk. It is becoming difficult to chew food, whatever we have taken.”

Hines said he helps his mother do her hair, fix her eyelashes, brush her teeth — many things people without the disease sometimes take for granted.

“As a man, I’ve never had to. It’s hard to do,” Hines said. “They’re things that we take for granted, that everyone takes for granted, but someone like my mother or people with muscular dystrophy don’t.”

Hines is about to enter her sixth professional season But with success on the field also comes challenges.

Asked how he manages to balance it, Hines admitted he doesn’t know.

“I have a great team and great family,” he said. “In 2020-21, my mom fell and broke her hip and was in the hospital for over 100 days. To be honest, it was really tough. But at that time, you were really close to your friends and family and my twin sister rested on.”

Now, Hines is hoping her story can help inspire others.
