Assam ‘bastion of Islamic fundamentalism’, Meghalaya movement closely watched, says CM Sangma – India Times Hindi News

Meghalaya is on alert despite the detection of terror module in Assam. According to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, it is keeping a close watch on movement to and from the state as it is proving to be a “bastion of Islamic fundamentalism”.

Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma said, “We will keep a watch and the police will ensure that the intelligence network is maintained at the ground level.”

“It is the normal procedure to ensure that there is no infiltration or any other concern, there is movement of people to and from the State; Most of the thanas (police stations) are giving inputs at the local level,” he said.

Sangma further said that the state government has received these inputs and is monitoring it. When asked about the interstate and international border, the CM said, “We will assess the situation and take action as and when required.”

Earlier in the day, Sarma said there is a need to strengthen the intelligence network of the state police in Assam in view of the increase in the Muslim population in the districts bordering Bangladesh. He also said that the number of police stations in these districts should also be increased.

He made the remarks when six Bangladeshi nationals affiliated with Ansarul Islam entered Assam to educate youth and one of them was arrested after police busted the first module in Barpeta in March.
