WSJ News Exclusive | Facebook reconsiders news deals, and loses millions in payments to publishers

meta platform Inc.’s Facebook is re-investigating it commitment to pay for news, People familiar with the matter said, prompting some news organizations to make up for a potential revenue shortfall of tens of millions of dollars.

According to people familiar with the matter, the company has paid an average annual fee of more than $15 million to the Washington Post, more than $20 million to the New York Times and more than $10 million to the Wall Street Journal. The Journal fee is part of a broader Facebook News deal negotiated extensively by parent company Dow Jones & Co., which includes annual compensation of more than $20 million, people familiar with the partnership said.
