‘Worst times are over,’ officials say as Delhi’s Covid cases continue to decline

Maintaining a steady decline, Delhi recorded 3,674 COVID cases on Sunday with a positivity rate of 6.37%. The number of deaths, which according to experts is almost 2 weeks behind the cases, was still over 30.

Delhi government officials said the ongoing case for the past one week has made it clear that the worst in Delhi is over.

“We saw it in South Africa as well. Cases increased very quickly and then decreased at the same pace. Delhi reached a new peak of cases in this wave, but hospitals were not overwhelmed. This is the right time to reopen things, including schools, as there is clear evidence that we are in a better position now, especially with vaccinations,” said a senior government official.

According to Sunday’s health bulletin, only 10% of the 15,428 hospital beds reserved for Covid patients were filled. Of these, 1,508 patients were admitted, 447 were on oxygen support while 143 were on ventilator support.
