Oslo, Norway – Two people were killed and 14 injured on Saturday in a shooting at a nightclub and surrounding streets in the Norwegian capital Oslo.
Police told reporters that a suspect, believed to be the sole criminal, had been arrested.
“Two people have been confirmed dead,” the Oslo Police Department said in a tweet.
Around 14 people were taken to hospital, many of whom were seriously injured, police said.
Police spokesman Torrey Burstad told the newspaper Aftenposten that the crime scene stretched from a London pub through a neighboring club to a nearby street where the suspect was caught minutes after the shooting began.
The London Pub is a popular gay bar and nightclub in the center of Oslo.
“I saw a man come with a bag, he picked up a gun and started shooting,” said Olav Röneberg, a journalist for the public broadcaster NRK.
It was not immediately clear what the motive for the attack was.
Oslo is scheduled to hold its annual Pride Parade later on Saturday.
Photos published by the newspaper VG, broadcaster NRK and others showed a large crowd of emergency responders, including police and ambulance personnel, outside a London pub.
Helicopters hovered over central Oslo, while ambulances and police car sirens were heard across the city.
Oslo University Hospital said it was on red alert after the shooting.
