The CP Holiday Train visits Hamilton, Ont. 1st time since 2019 – Hamilton | globalnews.ca

Canadian Pacific (CP) holiday train comes back to Hamilton for the first time in years as the pandemic spurred virtual performances.

The 14-car train, decorated with hundreds of thousands of LED lights and holiday designs, arrives south of Gage Park next to Lawrence Road at about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

A fundraiser on rail, the procession travels across Canada and the United States, raising money, food and awareness for food banks.

The Boxcar stage will also feature artists Lindsey Ell and JoJo Mason during the free 30-minute concert.

“So we have about 168 stops on our tour and it takes us about three weeks to get on our two trains,” said Salem Woodrow, CP media relations manager.

Woodrow says the train, scheduled to cross Canada, east to west, left Montreal last week and will end its journey in the Vancouver area over the next three weeks.

The US train is heading to the Midwest and will return to Canada via Saskatchewan in mid-December.

Donations to the food bank can be made either in cash or with a donation of non-perishable food such as tuna, beans, rice, pasta, cereal and baby food.

Since the first tour in 1999, more than $21 million and 5 million pounds of food have been collected.

Hamilton Police say Lawrence Road between Cumberland and Kensington Avenues will be closed from 4:30 p.m. until approximately 10:00 p.m.
