Surat: Fire brigade rescues boy who tried to jump in Tapi river

Fire brigade officials on Thursday rescued a 17-year-old boy in Surat who allegedly tried to jump into the Tapi river to end his life.

According to officials of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) fire department, a passerby while traveling on the newly constructed bridge over the Tapi river saw the boy climbing the security wall to jump into the river.

The passerby informed the control room of Surat Fire Department and the message was forwarded to the office of Mota Varachha Fire Department.

Fire Officer Rahul Balasara along with his team reached the spot and rescued the boy. Fire officials informed the boy’s parents and Kapodara police.

The youth was later identified as Aryan Talviya, a resident of the charioteer complex of Mota Varachha.

Balasara said, “I spoke to the boy who was about to jump into the river. He was found depressed. He is a student of class 11th. We have asked his parents to take extra care of him.”
