Sri Lankan President resigns over email after fleeing the country

Colombo, Sri Lanka—President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya RajapaksaWho? fled the country this week and traveled to Singapore on Thursday, sent a letter via email to the parliamentary speaker to resign from office, the speaker’s office said late Thursday.

The letter was signed by the president in the presence of Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Singapore, digitally scanned and sent from an official High Commission email address, a representative from the speaker’s office told The Wall Street Journal.
