Scotland’s Nicola Sturgeon draws up plans for independence vote

Leader of Edinburgh-Scotland nicola sturgeon Plans were made to hold a new independence referendum in October 2023, citing the legality of the vote to the UK Supreme Court, in an attempt to break a legal impasse over any possible separation.

His move on Tuesday is set to escalate a long-running standoff with the British prime minister boris johnson, Mr Johnson repeatedly denied Ms Sturgeon’s request to authorize a referendum on leaving Britain after pro-independence parties won a majority in Scottish Parliament elections last year said an earlier referendum in 2014 had settled the question. The independence camp lost 45% to 55% of that vote, but Ms Sturgeon and her supporters say the political landscape has changed since then, particularly UK exit from the European Union, which was opposed by the majority of Scottish voters.
