KARACHI: Schools across Sindh will reopen on August 19, Sindh Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah announced on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference along with MPA Ismail Rahu, the minister said that the intermediate exams will resume from August 10.

“Students will not be allowed to carry their mobile phones inside the examination centres,” the education minister said, adding that teachers and examination staff would also be banned from bringing cell phones inside the centre.

Rahu reiterated that the government will not allow fraud at any cost.

Shah said that the decision to delay the reopening of schools has been taken for the convenience of the students.

He said that while the provincial government would monitor the coronavirus situation over 10 days till August 19, schools would remain closed as Muharram processions made it difficult for students to commute.

“From Muharram 7 onwards processions are taken out across the province, causing inconvenience to the students,” he said.

Responding to a question, Shah said it is necessary for the provincial government to review its syllabus. “We’re still teaching kids the wonders of radio,” he said. “Does anyone have a radio in their house today?”

Shah said that if public schools improve and improve, parents will never send their children to private schools.

“No parent wants to send their children to private schools at extra charges,” he said.

Responding to another question, Shah said the Sindh government will try to ensure that there is no big difference between the decisions taken by the provincial government and the Centre.

He said that the Sindh government will also monitor and check whether the school staff and teachers have been vaccinated or not.
