Traffic police offers single settlement facility for vehicles with 100 challans

The Chandigarh Traffic Police has asked habitual offenders with more than 100 traffic challans against their vehicles to dispose of their challans in a single settlement, failing which the process will be initiated for the cancellation of the Registration Certificate (RC) of all such vehicles, followed by impounding.

A traffic police officer said it was observed from the e-challan database that large numbers of traffic challans are pending against vehicles of habitual offenders who did not pay fines and ignored, which is an offence. However, Chandigarh Traffic Police have started identifying such habitual offenders.

The officer said in the first phase, some habitual offenders having more than 100 challans against their vehicle were contacted and they were informed to dispose of their challans as a single settlement in the court. Accordingly, on Saturday during the General Lok Adalat, three vehicle owners/violators came to the court for the disposal of their pending challans, where the court decided against three offending vehicles — one car and two two-wheelers — having a total of 379 pending traffic challans, which were disposed of by imposing a fine of Rs 74,500.

Traffic police, meanwhile, said the single settlement for the disposal of traffic challans would continue.

“Hence citizens having a large number of pending challans, and are willing to avail this initiative, are informed to come forward through challan branch, Traffic Lines, Sector 29, Chandigarh, for the disposal of pending challans in the court,” the traffic police officer said.

Festive offer

“Vehicle owners/ habitual violators having a large number of challans pending against their vehicles should avail this initiative at the earliest, as Chandigarh Traffic Police will initiate the process for the cancellation of RC of all such vehicles and start impounding,” the officer added.
