More than 2,000 passengers a day expected to depart Saskatoon Airport over the Christmas period.

This is according to a statement from YXE, which said it’s going to be a busy holiday travel season, and also gave some travel tips.

“We remind everyone to make sure they check their flight direction status with the airline before arriving at the airport and two hours before scheduled departure to ensure enough time to make the process stress-free.” Plan to arrive appropriately.” read the statement.

“If you plan to travel with gifts, make sure they are unwrapped or checked in your luggage. Also, make sure any important items like keys or medicine are with you at all times and in your Baggage not checked in.

The Regina Airport warned that any wrapped gifts may need to be opened during pre-board screening.

“If a passenger is not sure what they can or cannot bring through security screening, simply ask ‘What can I bring through security?’ Link on our website for easy search tools,” read a statement from the Regina Airport.

That said, things can be a little slow around airports, and patience is appreciated.

“Last of all, winter weather is unpredictable – here and elsewhere your plane may be grounded. It’s always good to double-check your flight status on your airline’s website before you head to the airport.

“It’s probably going to be the busiest season we’ve had since the pandemic,” said Barb Crowe with Ixtapa Travel.

He suggested that people check in 24 hours before departure.

“Do whatever you can before you go to the airport,” Crowe said.

“Get that seat booked and that boarding card in your hands or on your phone.”

That should help speed things up for people, she said.

Crowe said that if you’re parking your car at the airport, you can also pre-book your parking.

She said some people forget the liquid rule when on flights, and reminded people that only 100ml of liquid and gels are allowed in your carry-on.

Crow suggested that people bring their own snacks with them, noting that empty water bottles can be refilled once you go through security.
