The first SIIT Career Center opened in Regina with success in helping First Nations job seekers gain employment. Now, SIIT has evolved since then.
SIIT vice-president of employment development and career services Lisa Shingoj said the donation will enhance all nine SIIT Career Center locations in Saskatchewan.
“To our partners, Contractor Connections and SGI, we are extremely grateful for their gift of $30,000, which will be used to upgrade our technical infrastructure at each of the nine career centers sites,” said Shingoj.
“Access to technology and supporting infrastructure is extremely important to the success of a career center.”
Shingoz said that through their technology, job seekers can obtain security stamps, complete resumes, compete for posted positions online and access Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission online registration.
Over the past year, Shingoz said the career centers have collectively worked with about 4,200 job seekers to help guide them on a path that will help them become labor-ready for industry partners. As a result of that work, the Career Center has successfully placed approximately 2,300 people in jobs with its industry partners.
