Chennai Police has summoned actor Siddharth in a defamation case against famous badminton player Saina Nehwal. “Actor Siddharth has been summoned (over his controversial tweet on badminton player Saina Nehwal). We have actually received 2 complaints; The second is on defamation in the legal framework, not a criminal case. We only need his statement,” said Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are thinking about how to obtain the statement. We have summoned actor Siddharth”, said the Chennai Police Commissioner.
The Rang De Basanti actor was slammed by netizens for his comment on Nehwal. On January 5, Nehwal had tweeted on PM Modi regarding the alleged ‘security violation’ in Punjab. “No nation can claim to be safe if the security of its own Prime Minister is compromised. In the strongest possible words, I condemn the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists. #BharatStandsWithModi #PMModi,” she wrote.
Retweeting this, he wrote, ‘Micro cock champion of the world… thank God we have India defender. Shame on you #Rihanna.”
After this tweet, many social media users called her out for her sexism.
When News18.com asked Saina for a reply, she said, “Yes, I don’t know what he meant. I liked him as an actor but it was not good. He couldn’t put himself in better words.” But I think Twitter gets attention with these kind of words and comments.”
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police has also registered a case against Siddharth for making indecent remarks against Saina. The actor has been booked under section 509 of the IPC, section 67 of the IT Act after a social worker lodged a complaint against him.
