Quebec Professional Association of Real Estate Brokers says Montreal-area home sales rose 25.5 per cent in April compared with the same month last year, with levels returning to the historical average.

The association says home sales in the region totaled 4,688 in the month, up from 3,734 in April 2023.

Charles Brant, director of market analysis at QPAREB, says there was a “very reactive correction” in April due to the “imminent return to the cycle of falling interest rates” and expectations of price growth in the market.

Active listings in April rose 19 percent from a year earlier to 18,932, while new listings rose 33.1 percent to 7,099.
