Supriya Sule fears irregularities in voting, demands camera surveillance in sensitive booths

A day ahead of Baramati going to polls on Tuesday, NCP (SP) candidate Supriya Sule has urged the Election Commission of India to declare four assembly segments as sensitive areas and depute extra security over fears of irregularities during voting in polling booths by her opponents.

In a communication to the district election office and returning officer for the ECI, Sule said, “From the information I have, a large possibility of irregularities in polling booths cannot be ruled out in the assembly segments of Baramati, Daund, Indapur and Khadakwasla.”

She said the polling booths in all four assembly segments should be declared sensitive. She added that if there were any irregularities and wrongdoings during voting, then it will cause a problem for citizens.

“It’s our request to allow voting in these sensitive booths under camera surveillance,” Sule said.

Sule has furnished a list of polling booths that, according to her, are sensitive so that the administration takes appropriate action to ensure there is no irregularity.

Festive offer

“The administration will be solely responsible if there are irregularities in voting,” Sule said.

The district election office has issued directions to the Pune police, PCMC police and Pune Rural police to take cognisance of Sule’s communication and take appropriate action.

The contest in Baramati will be a tough one, given that Supriya Sule, Sharad Pawar’s daughter, faces a challenge against NCP candidate and wife of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Sunetra Pawar.
