Punjab: Nepalese citizen arrested in Lalru for possessing 3 kg opium

Lalru police on Sunday arrested a Nepalese citizen and recovered three kg of opium from him. The accused allegedly supplied narcotics to his customers in Lalru after smuggling them from Nepal, Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Madhya Pradesh (MP).

The accused has been identified as Man Bahadur VK, a resident of Jajarkot district of Nepal. He was arrested by a police team at a block near Jharmari village.

Police officials said they had received information that a drug smuggler was present in the area, following which a naka was put up near the bus stand in Jharmari village.

Sub-Inspector Hardeep Singh, the complainant in the case, said that on seeing the ‘police’ at the block, the accused tried to turn back and was ‘panicked’.

“The police party saw the accused when he was trying to escape. After this the police personnel caught the accused and on the basis of suspicion they investigated the accused and found three kg of opium from his possession.

Police have registered a case against Man Bahadur VK under sections 18, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Lalru police station.
