Pune: Three policemen suspended for ‘negligence’ in escaping rape accused from custody

Three policemen attached to Warje police station have been suspended from service for alleged negligence which has led to the escape of a rape accused. Police have recovered the absconding youth

Warje police had arrested a 28-year-old man, Swagat Kamble, on September 17 for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl. He was being investigated at the investigation branch of the Warje police station, but was being investigated in the early hours of September. 18, he escaped from police custody.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Purnima Gaikwad suspended three police personnel Sambhaji Gaikwad, Mahesh Dhotre and Vishal Kadam for being negligent in this matter.

Meanwhile, the police have managed to re-arrest Kamble from a liquor bar in the city. A separate offense was registered against him under section 224 of the Indian Penal Code.
