PSI Recruitment: Exam will have to be canceled if instructed to issue fresh merit list: Gujarat government to High Court

The state government on Friday told the Gujarat High Court that if the court directs any change in the methodology of the recruitment process, it will have no option but to completely cancel the class-3 police sub-inspector examinations. The government’s reply came in a submission before the High Court, which is hearing a slew of petitions challenging the methodology of the recruitment process to the post.

The petitions have challenged the inclusion of reserved category candidates in the open category candidates list in the preliminary merit list for the purpose of appearing in the main examination for the post of Sub-Inspector of Police Class-III.

The petitioners have demanded that this be declared illegal and the court directs the Police Sub Inspector Recruitment Board (PSIRB) to issue a fresh merit list of candidates to appear in the main examination as per the preliminary examination by calling three times the candidates. . of each category – reserved category, and general category – open category without including reserved category candidates up to the number of vacancies notified for each category.

A total of 1382 posts are to be filled.

Around 880 candidates have filed nine petitions. The petitioners are candidates belonging to General Category as well as Reserved Categories (SEBC/SC/ST) who are undergoing the recruitment process for Police Sub-Inspector, Class-III. The exam is conducted in three phases – a physical test followed by a preliminary exam, and then the main exam.

The physical test was conducted in December 2021 and around 2.5 lakh candidates qualified to appear in the preliminary examination conducted by the board on March 6, 2022. The results for this stage of the exam were declared on April 27, 2022, in which the candidates were shortlisted. Those who qualified for the main stage.

The petitioners have sought as an interim relief that the petitioners be allowed to appear in the main examination to be held on June 12, pending disposal of the petitions and under the final order. The court has now posted the matters for further hearing on June 6. ,
