Prince William39, and Kate, 40, made the remarks today during a visit to the Ukrainian Cultural Center in London, where they met volunteers who were filling lorries with aid to support humanitarian relief efforts after the Russian invasion.

They wore Ukrainian yellow and blue solidarity badges and carried trays of homemade chocolate brownies and granola bars to Kensington Palace for volunteers working at the center in nearby Holland Park.

Speaking with volunteers, William said his eldest children, Prince George, aged eight, and Princess Charlotte, six, have been asking about the tragedy that was unfolding.

William said: ‘Our house is coming and asking everything. They are obviously talking about it with their friends in school.’

He suggested that he found it difficult to discuss something about it with his children, adding that he had to ‘choose my words carefully to explain what was happening’.

Further discussing the conflict with the Ukrainian volunteers, William stated that Britain and the rest of Europe were united behind them.

He also spoke of the shock of seeing war on European soil, saying that Britons were more used to seeing conflict in Africa and Asia.

‘It’s very different to see it in Europe. We are all behind you,’ he said. He said that he, like many others, wanted to do more to help, adding: ‘We feel so worthless.’

At least two million people have already fled their homes to escape the conflict, with four million expected to be displaced as the Russian offensive continues.

Earlier this month, William and Kate were thanked by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife after the royals said they stood by him in their fight.

The Cambridge’s February 26 post insisted on Twitter that they ‘stand’ with the people of the war-torn nation, as they ‘fight bravely’ for their future.

After their statement was posted on Twitter, Mr Zelensky and his wife Olenna said they were ‘grateful’ for the royal couple’s rare political comment. He said the support was a boost as Ukraine continued to fight the Russian invasion.

President Zelensky said: ‘Olena and I are grateful to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge that at this critical time, when Ukraine is courageously resisting the invasion of Russia, they stand by our country and support our brave citizens . Good will prevail.’
