A spokesman for the Meteorological Department said standard: ‘Police received information about a suspicious package being found at Parliament Street on Tuesday, 7th June at 11:27 am.
‘The officers are on the spot and the security cordon is further closed during the interrogation.’
It is understood that officials have brought a bomb disposal robot to the scene, which is also accompanied by firefighters.
Witnesses also reported hearing a controlled explosion.
