Contempt of Court case: 4 policemen, including IPS officer, jailed for 4 weeks in Telangana

The Telangana High Court has sentenced four police officers, including an IPS officer, to four weeks’ imprisonment in a contempt of court case. Justice G Radha Rani, who sentenced them to jail on Monday, also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 each.

The court directed the Hyderabad Police Commissioner to initiate disciplinary action against Additional Commissioner (Crime) AR Srinivas (who was then the Deputy Commissioner of Police), an Assistant Commissioner of Police, an Inspector and a Sub-Inspector of Police of the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate. ,

The court suspended the sentence for four weeks to enable him to go for appeal.

The contempt of court petition was filed by a 49-year-old man and his mother, who now resides in Thailand.

He alleged that in the dowry harassment and domestic violence case (which was filed against him by the man’s wife in 2019), no notice was issued to him by the police under Section 41-A of CrPC and the charge sheet was filed. Gone.

The petitioners had sought initiation of appropriate action against the police officers for violating the Supreme Court guidelines while dealing with matrimonial dispute cases.
