Pennsylvanians continue to struggle with IDA damage as FEMA extends financial aid deadline

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — FEMA has extended the deadline to apply for financial aid for people in Pennsylvania whose homes have been damaged by the remains. Hurricane Ida. The new deadline to apply is December 10, a month after the original date.

It’s been two months since Ida moved, but many residents still have no idea what’s next.

Ded Moran has lived in her Port Providence home for more than two decades. It is now barely recognizable after Hurricane Ida erupted.

“It was almost up to my roof and there are a few things that I thought I could save, but I don’t think so. It’s like I’m starting anew.”

His insurance company gave an upfront amount, but Moran told CBS3 that the amount was disappointing.

“I’m not able to use because it’s not enough to do anything,” she said.

Many families in Port Richmond and nearby Mont Clair are in limbo waiting for answers and money to make repairs.

Some positive news could be on the horizon with FEMA pushing back the loss deadline. The December 10 extension applies to Bedford, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia and York counties. Anything not covered by insurance is fair game.

“I applied for disaster assistance, and mine just keeps pending, pending, pending. And when you call FEMA you have a 99-minute wait,” she said.

The 84-year-old said she had experienced the last major flood, which was back in 1999, but the way she is doing now cannot be compared.

“It’s like I always think it’s a dream and I’m about to wake up, but it never happens,” Moran said.
