PCs win Kirkfield Park seat in narrow by-election – Winnipeg | globalnews.ca

Manitoba PCs hung on to their seats at Kirkfield Park Riding, but it came down just short of the wire.

According to the unofficial results from Elections Manitoba, the PC’s Kevin Klein received 2,356 votes, surpassing the NDP’s Logan Oxenham, who finished with 2,196 votes.

Klein, a former Winnipeg city councillor, finished third in the Winnipeg mayoral race in October and, after a brief stint outside city hall, is now moving to the Manitoba Legislative Building.

Liberal candidate Rhonda Nicoll received 1,741 votes, while Green Party candidate Dennis Bayomi came fourth with 70 votes.

The official results will be declared on Friday.

The by-election was called after former MLA Scott Fielding, who held the seat in 2016, resigned in June.

Prior to 2016, the riding was NDP from 2007–2016 under the leadership of Sharon Bloody, but outside of that nine-year stretch, the riding has been blue since its inception in 1981.

The turnout was over 36 percent with 6,372 ballots cast.
