Opinion | West Virginia’s Missed Tax Reform

Sen. Joe Manchin isn’t the only politician letting down West Virginia these days. Add Republicans in the state Senate who are scuttling a bipartisan effort to cut taxes for all Mountain Staters.

West Virginia ended fiscal 2022 with a $1.3 billion budget surplus, and some $600 million remains unappropriated. Last week the state House voted 78-7 for an income-tax cut favored by Gov. Jim Justice, with 11 Democrats joining the Republican majority.
