Police officials said two people were stabbed inside the museum around 4 pm. According to NYPD officials, the lives of the injured were not expected to be in danger as the victims were taken to a nearby hospital.

Witnesses present at the scene claimed that they saw two women being carried on stretchers as the police were yet to identify the victims.

Responding to reports of stabbings, police lined up on the road and people were advised to avoid the area, which is being investigated.

Several people in the museum at the time of the stabbing filmed a busy evacuation as they were brought in by museum security to exit the building.

A Twitter user named Cheerleader52 said that his group was locked in the basement without telling what was happening at the time of the stabbing.

‘People were screaming and crying. The police told us to RUN,’ the user wrote while filming the escape outside the museum.

David Durjerko, a Chicago museum visitor, told NBC New York That when the attack happened the museum was full of visitors taking shelter from the blizzard.

‘All of a sudden they said ‘the museum is closed’ and people started running,’ Dujarko said. There was a slight panic on the escalator, and then they started shouting, ‘Get out, get out for your safety’.

The suspect is believed to be wearing a black hoodie New York Post Reported.

MoMA officials could not be immediately reached for comment.

The police are yet to report any arrests or charges in connection with the stabbing.
