Mumbai: BMC spends Rs 9 crore on guards for Covid screening

BMC has spent Rs 9 crore on railway stations, airports and private security guards deployed at airports COVID-19 Care center for screening passengers for COVID-19.

The proposal was approved by the Standing Committee on Wednesday. As per the proposal, the BMC was screening outbound passengers between November 2020 and June 2021 at railway stations such as Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai Central Railway Station, Dadar and Bandra.

Till now BMC has paid Rs 7 crore and remaining Rs 2 crore will be paid now. The security services will continue till September 30. 150 security guards were deployed at various places.

Apart from railway stations, guards were posted at Sahar Airport, Bandra-Kurla Complex COVID Center, Dahisar Octroi Naka COVID Center and Dahisar Kanderpada Covid Center since January 2020.
