Mexico arrests drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero, pleads guilty to murder of DEA agent

MEXICO CITY—An elite unit of the Mexican Navy captures a drug lord Rafael Caro QuinteroMexican officials said Friday, who was released by a Mexican judge in 2013 after serving a 28-year prison sentence for the murder of a US Drug Enforcement Administration agent.

Mr. Caro Quintero, 69, was convicted of the kidnapping, torture and murder of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena in 1985. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison for a crime that affected bilateral relations between the US and Mexico. Angered by the disappearance of Mr. Camarena, the US temporarily closed the border with Mexico.
