Ryan and the Texans reportedly agreed to a six-year deal, with the organization looking for stability after four coaches over the past three seasons.
Bill O’Brien was fired during the 2020 campaign, and Romeo Crennel was not retained after serving as interim coach. David Culley and, more recently, Lovie Smith each had years in 2021 and 2022, respectively, before parting ways with the organization.

During his three-week search, Ryan, who played six seasons with the Texans, made two Pro Bowls, was a fan favorite and became the frontrunner for the job.
The Texans announced they had completed a second interview with him on Tuesday, but it seemed like it was a formality as many expected a deal to happen soon. It was finalized hours later.
Watt may have foreshadowed the report on Tuesday after he posted a photo on Twitter Monday of himself and Ryan during his time with the Texans. With no title on it, speculation began that Watt could join Ryan’s coaching staff even after retiring from playing this season.
