UN denounces ‘onslaught of violence against women’ by Israel, notes mass graves in Gaza

The statement said 14,500 were children and 9,500 were women among the 34,488 Palestinians killed since the war began seven months ago. Israel disputes the number of dead as it compiled local health officer Run by the Hamas-controlled government of Gaza.

The statement said there continued to be reports of sexual assault and violence against women and girls detained by Israeli forces, but provided no further details. It cites UN reports that “many” women and girls have been “enforcedly disappeared” since the beginning of the war.

The authors also say that abortion has increased; 17,000 children have been orphaned since the war began; And that Israeli forces have destroyed Gaza’s largest fertility clinic, which was reported to be storing 3,000 embryos there.

“Israel must cease all hostilities and immediately end all arms exports to the States. These states can no longer ignore the fact that weapons are being used to kill and maim innocent women and children. There can be no more excuses,” the statement concluded.

Israel’s foreign press department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
