Israeli forces kill two Palestinian attackers: Israeli officials

A Palestinian said an Israeli policeman was stabbed to death in Jerusalem’s Old City on Sunday after officers opened fire, a police spokesman said.

A military spokesman said later in the day, Israeli soldiers shot a Palestinian who hurled a fire bomb at a military post outside Jerusalem.

Palestinian officials identified him as a 16-year-old who later died of his wounds.

In the old town, a 19-year-old went up to two officers who were stationed at one of the city gates, “pulled out a knife and stabbed one of them,” a police spokesman said.

Other nearby policemen “replied by firing at him and neutralized the terrorist.” Two officers were lightly injured, police said, one by stabbing and one during police firing.

The picture shared by the police showed a knife lying on the ground near the blood stain.

In the village of Abu Dis, outside the Israeli municipal city limits of Jerusalem, soldiers shot one of two Palestinians who hurled bombs at an army post, the other attackers managed to escape, the military spokesman said.

In the 1967 Middle East War, Israel occupied East Jerusalem, including the Old City, and annexed it in a move not recognized internationally. Peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians broke down in 2014.
