The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Saturday detained activist Teesta Setalvad from Mumbai in connection with an FIR registered against her in the crime branch of Ahmedabad city. Sources gave this information.

A Gujarat ATS source said, “Teesta Setalvad has been picked up by Gujarat ATS from Mumbai in connection with the FIR registered by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch.”

A day earlier, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition challenging the clean chit given by the SIT to the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others in the post-Godhra riots cases of 2002.

Setalvad’s NGO supported Zakia Jafri during her legal battle. Jafri’s husband Ehsan Jafri was killed during the riots.

A Mumbai Police official said Setalvad was picked up by the Gujarat Police from his Santacruz residence.

He said that we provided the help sought by him.
