Punjab Police is making efforts to extradite Goldie Brar, a Canadian resident who claimed responsibility for the murder of singer Sidhu Musewala, state DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday. He said that there is a high possibility that the AK-47 rifle recovered from the two gangsters after the encounter in Amritsar may be the same weapon which was used in killing the singer.

Yadav, along with gangster task force chief Pramod Ban and other senior police officials, briefed Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann about the Amritsar encounter on Thursday.

Gangsters Jagroop Singh Roopa and Manpreet Singh alias Mannu Kusa, who were allegedly involved in Moosewala’s murder, were killed in a nearly five-hour-long encounter with the Punjab Police in a village in Amritsar on Wednesday.

One AK-47 rifle and two pistols were recovered by the police after the operation.

Speaking to reporters after meeting CM Mann here, Yadav said, “We gave detailed information about the operation to the CM sahib.”

He said the efforts being made to eliminate the gangster culture and drug menace were also reviewed. This war against gangsters will continue, Yadav said, adding, “We will eliminate gangsters and drugs from the state.” Replying to a question on Goldie Brar, Yadav said that Interpol has issued a red corner notice against him. Yadav said, “We are trying to extradite him.

After Musewala’s murder on 29 May, Canada’s Goldie Brar, who is a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the murder.

Satinderjit Singh alias Goldie Brar, a resident of Muktsar, had gone to Canada in 2017 on a student visa. Punjab Police had earlier said that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was the ‘mastermind’ of Moosewala’s murder. The killing was done in retaliation for the murder of young Akali leader Vicky Middukheda last year. When asked whether the AK-47 rifle recovered from the gangsters was the same weapon that was used in the murder of Musewala, the DGP said there was a lot of possibility.

“But we can say for sure only after its forensic examination,” he said.

Mannu Kusa and Jagroop Roopa were part of a module to kill the singer. Kusa is believed to have fired at Musewala with an AK-47 rifle. The two men were traveling in a car behind Musewala’s vehicle at Jawahar’s village in Mansa district.

When asked whether these two gangsters want to flee to Pakistan, Yadav said that it is a matter of investigation. “We will trace all the connections,” he said.

Responding to a question, Yadav pointed to the Amritsar operation and said that it was a live encounter.

“They opened fire on the police teams with AK-47 rifles. The police retaliated in self-defense. We work according to the law,” he said. Replying to another question, Yadav said, “We have started a kind of agitation. The entire police force has been mobilized and activated,” he said, emphasizing on public cooperation in ending the gangster culture and drug menace.
