Bengaluru: Six killed as tipper truck collides with three vehicles

Six people, including four from the same family, were killed and two were injured when a truck collided with three vehicles on the Bengaluru-Mysore road on Monday.

According to the police, the incident took place at Kumbalgodu on the outskirts of Bengaluru city. The deceased have been identified as Nikita Rani (29), Veenamma (42), Indrakumar (14) and Keerthi Kumar (40), all from a family living in Magadi Road, Bengaluru; Sivaprakash (40), a native of Mysuru, robbed Bidadi; and Jatin (30), a native of Kerala and a resident of Peenya, Bengaluru.

Nikita’s husband Gajendra (38) and son Siddharth (9) have suffered injuries.

The tipper was going towards Bangalore with the gravel stones. Police said as the tipper approached Kumbalgodu, the driver lost control and hit Madhyamika. Then the car rammed into two cars and a bike, crushing them. Nikita Rani’s family was traveling in one car, Shivprakash was traveling in another car and Jatin was traveling on his bike. The tipper driver fled the spot.

Locals said it took them and the police about 30 minutes to reach the victims trapped under the vehicle. The bodies were shifted to a private hospital.

The Kumbalgodu police have registered a case of negligence against the tipper driver.

The accident brought traffic to a halt on the busy Mysore-Bengaluru road and it took about 90 minutes to clear the road.
