Asia-Pacific stocks are off to a higher start after Wall Street jump overnight

SINGAPORE – Shares in Asia-Pacific opened positive on Friday after gains overnight on Wall Street. Investors await the release of US jobs data for May.

Futures pointed to higher openness for Japanese stocks. The Nikkei futures contract in Chicago was at 27,770, while its counterpart in Osaka was at 27,740 – higher. Nikkei 225’s Last closed at 27,413.88.

Australian shares also looked to open higher, with SPI futures contract at 7,245 S&P/ASX 200K Last closed at 7,175.90.

Overnight on Wall Street, three major indexes stateside broke two-day losing streaks. The S&P 500 jumped 1.84% to 4,176.82. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 435.05 points, or 1.33%, to 33,248.28. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 2.69% to 12,316.90.

US jobs data for May will be released Friday at 8:30 p.m. on HK/SIN. Economists surveyed by the Dow Jones added 328,000 jobs in May, a drop of 100,000 from April.

OPEC+ increased production
