Ukrainian intelligence agents say they have foiled Russian assassination plot Volodymyr Zelensky,
ukraineThe SBU state security service said it had caught Russian agents within the Ukrainian State Guard service plotting to kidnap and assassinate the president and other senior government officials.
The head of the SBU, Vasil Malyuk, said that the failed assassination was considered a “gift”. Vladimir Putin before his inauguration on Tuesday.
The force said they have arrested two suspected “moles” who they believe were recruited by Russia ahead of their invasion.
The SBU claimed on Telegram that a Russian secret agent had sent coordinates to a safe house ahead of a planned rocket attack. The force said Russia planned to destroy all targets of the drone used to target the President with another missile.
Without providing evidence, he wrote: “The enemy was actively planning to eliminate President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“One of the tasks of the FSB intelligence network was to search for executioners among the military close to the president’s security, who could take the head of state hostage and subsequently kill him.
“In addition to Volodymyr Zelensky, the enemy planned to eliminate the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Malyuk, the head of the State Administration of Ukraine Kirill Budanov and other high-ranking officials.”
The head of the SBU, Vasil Malyuk, said: “A limited number of people knew about our special operation, and I personally monitored its progress.
“The terrorist attack, which was supposed to be a gift to Putin before the inauguration, was actually a failure of Russian special services.
“But we must not forget – the enemy is strong and experienced, he cannot be underestimated. “We will continue to work ahead of schedule to ensure that every traitor receives a fair trial.”
The SBU claimed that a search of the “infiltrators” found “relevant means of destruction” and other evidence of criminal activity.
He said the two officers were arrested under martial law on suspicion of treason and preparation for a terrorist act.
Russia’s Defense Ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
