Amarjeet Sidhu hopes to remain loyal, Congress says majority will lag behind

Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Sidhu is said to have met Congress councilors on Monday, amid rumors that party loyalists may follow him and join the party. BJP, However, a Congress councilor said that most of them would remain with the party.

Sidhu – he and his brother Balbir Singh Sidhu joined the BJP during Amit Shah’s visit on June 4 – said they had met councilors but did not pressurize anyone to join the saffron party.

“In the coming days, we will try to bring big projects in the city from the central government and also ensure the overall development of the city,” he said.

Meanwhile, a Congress councilor has said that the party held a meeting with Punjab Congress President Raja Waring on Sunday evening, where most of them assured him that they would not leave the party.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is being patient in its efforts to garner enough support to bring a no-confidence motion against the mayor.
