After the death of a 17-year-old child, Panchkula reported the first death due to dengue this year.

Panchkula on Wednesday recorded its first official death due to dengue this year, while a total of 28 new positive cases (confirmed with ELISA test), and 24 cases (under rapid diagnostic method) of the vector-borne disease were reported.

The 28 positive results on Wednesday also meant that the total number of dengue cases in the district crossed 500 and rose to 519 (confirmed by ELISA tests) by October 27 this year.

Talking to Dr. Mukta Kumar, Chief Medical Officer, Panchkula Indian Express, said on Wednesday, “Today’s death is reported of a 17-year-old girl, who was a resident of Ashiana and had come to us on Tuesday with a platelet count of 12000. She was unstable when she came inside. She passed away.” Within a few hours of being admitted to the hospital.”

At least 220 people visited the civil hospital on Wednesday and were either confirmed or termed as suspected dengue cases as they had dengue-like symptoms.

All the private hospitals in the district were also full.

This year Panchkula has broken the record for the highest number of cases reported in the district since the 2017 crisis.

According to the district medical health records, a total of 193 people had contracted dengue in 2017 till the month of October. This number was reduced in subsequent years, in 2020 only 14 dengue cases were reported in the district.
However, this year the number crossed the 200 mark in the second week of October, 300 on 17 October, 350 on 19 October, 400 on 23 October and finally crossed the 500 mark on 27 October. .
