Young man struggling with life and death after cursing the festival

A reveler has been taken to hospital after being seriously injured in an alleged assault at Music in the Vine festival.

The 41-year-old man was taken to hospital from Macarthur in the state’s south west with suspected serious injuries on Saturday and is being treated at a Melbourne hospital.

Festival organizers say the brawl reportedly happened when the men were waiting to catch a bus home after the festival had ended.

A 48-year-old Portland man has been charged with recklessly causing serious injury, including recklessly causing hurt, unlawful assault and assault.

Two other men, ages 45 and 48, from Portland were also arrested but later released.

Festival organizers have issued a statement reacting to the incident. The one-day festival largely featured local and Australian acts such as the Pierce Brothers, Little Georgia and Bones & Jones.

The post read, “The committee of Music at Vine is deeply saddened by an incident that occurred near the close of our festival last night.”

The post read, “Security and support staff immediately attended and emergency services responded quickly to the situation.”

Festival chairman Peter Badenhorst said organizers were in contact with the man’s family.

“We are receiving updates and have offered our full support to the man’s family during this difficult time,” he said.
